Cemeteries (Badarian, Naqada, Predynastic Period, Old Kingdom, First Intermediate Period, Middle Kingdom); Temple (Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom); settlement (Predynastic).
The toponyme refers to a large area of cemeteries that includes the sites of Qau el-Kebir, Badari, Mostagedda, Hemamieh, and Matmar. There were some 7000 tombs excavated across the site.
